In just @ a month, we've lost over 100 active members - WTF?? Even with the allure of the Fender CS Giveaway, active membership is in a freefall. Anyone have any answers?

I agree, I come by here from time to time, and overall disappointed in the lack of traffic etc.
To be honest, I think the board is trying to do too much. I think there are too many sub forums for the builders etc. Although each builder is special in their own right, having a public forum with each builder having their sub forum is a little over kill. Although in concept its cool, I don't see many builders being able to sustain their own section of the TGH in addition to what they may or maynot have going on.
I believe the board has potential, but it needs to focus on one thing and do that well, instead of trying to do everything.
I hope this makes sense.

Well, I'm not sure what's happenin' or not happening or the reasons for that but I do think that a lot of folks go the easy and convenient way of sticking to older and more established forums with a lot of traffic instead of going through the (sometime) pains of getting a younger (and still slower) forum on its feet.

I'm here for the long haul too. I try to post as often as I can, but don't always have input for some of the topics. When I do see a topic I can add to, I do.
Wow, just noticed I've been here a year already...how time flies.

I hope the forum becomes active again, I have a friend who tried to sign up a couple of weeks ago, he never received a confirmation e-mail, he never heard back from inquires as to why, he asked me to look into it, I posted a question about this on the Administration forum and never received a reply, so I figured they didn't care much about the situation.
So that makes me wonder if problems like this are ignored, I should invited others on board to what I consider a great forum with great people?

We had a huge problem with spam and there is a hold period for new members to become active. All registrations do go through, it is probably in his spam filter!
We have done everything we possibly can/could? do to make this forum grow. The only way to increase traffic is to:
1. Link the Hub on other forum with banners or hot links
2. Spam other boards about some of the stuff going on here
I have yet to see members posting on other boards reviews of Demo Boxes, etc If it has happened I am not seeing it.
The other ways to get people to join and stick around are through give-aways. I had to pull the Fender Give-Away because it didn't generate enough interest.
I guess at the end of the day people enjoy their censored reading material :D
The official forums will not get pulled becuase those are the few people that help us grow.
I did pull the Snake Oil forum because Dean would not link the forum to his site.
The advertisers do not pay us a penny, but in coming weeks they will all be required to place our banner on their website or we will remove the ad.
If you guys have any other questions let me know!
My PM works and we do try to make this place better not worse!
All the best,
Jason

Jason,
I'll tell Ray to check his spam filter. I did send a pm but never heard back, I know stuff happens.

I'm getting an impression that the GuitarHub in its present state is more of a chat room than a discussion forum. Nice to drop by from time to time to check what people are chatting about. It's a quiet place without any controversial topics (something I value highly) so it doesn't cause flushes of adrenaline.
Demo boxes are an excellent idea but so far they don't produce intended results i.e. reviews posted on other boards besides here. Also the number of reviews is rather small.
Dealers/Manufacturers forums are a nice touch but what real need to they really fulfill? If you need info on any particular dealer/manufacturer you go their respective website, preferably by clicking on the banner.
What we need is exclusive content with information that members really need in their tone/gear quest and which is not available elsewhere. To do this you need insiders deep in the trenches. Do we know any well enough to recruit them as our own moles?
Well I am out of ideas!
Nik at Ceriatone is going to try and giveaway an amp a month to see if that sparks anything.

You've tried that before to no avail. Traffic might get more busy as long as the giveaway is up for grabs but then?
Well Tom, I really don't know.
People come here, I know they do because I have access to the IP logs. If those people who claim they loved this place posted here instead of other places the traffic might grow.
Otherwise I will continue doing what I can in the hour or so a week I have for spare time.

The way that I see it is either you want to be a part of this community or you don't. Unfortunately we live in a society where the majority of people don't get involved in anything unless there's an incentive. It's a shame that folks should have to be inticed with a proverbial "carrot on a stick" in order to participate; even then in most cases it's fleeting as Tom has said.
Aleksander may be on to something about exclusive content. We need to give people a reason to want to be here, just like any other community - be it physical or virtual. The question is how do we go about it and what do we do to ensure that it works? Personally, I'm stumped as to how to accomplish either.
Jason, just so that you know, I appreciate all the effort and hard work you put into this place. It's just a pity that more don't. But for the 12-20 of us that are regulars here it means a lot. Thanks!

You are most welcome PeeWee!
Do not worry no one is giving up on the place. We have an agreement with the lawyers to bring a new Company in to manage and Host the Hub.
It should be exciting for everyone.
Just to continue for a moment.....
We had numerous exclusives, but the exclusive people we were dealing with had a hard time understanding what exclusive meant. It seems everyone uses the same excuse, I do not have the time, yet we all see them on other boards.
The Hub allows freedom of speech and all of the things you would expect from a community. We were hoping people would want to talk about the things they aren't allowed to on the other boards. That has not happened.
Like I said, many people said we love what you are doing how can we support you? But they were unable to post a link on their website or post on a regular basis.
Even those Official Forums we host aren't being used because those that own them are not here posting in them. I do not have the time to email all the hosts on a daily basis to remind them to post.
The truth is as much as everyone hates the other boards, they refuse to go anywhere else.
It explains an awful lot about Cuba or any other dictatorship/communist country :D

No traffic for the last two days, but lots of spammers! What' s happenin'?
People have the option of turning off email. If they do that when they register they will never be entered into the system since an email notification is sent.
I turned it off to see if that was causing frustration for new members. And spammers once again have taken over the place. I just dont have the time.
Volunteers?

Can't new members be informed about the email process? This spammers get old really quick.
